5 other women and myself through various conversations have been feeling the tug of doing something more outside of our homes/work/church volunteer roles. Through a series of crazy connections that ONLY God can orchestrate we have come together to volunteer at an organization called Breaking Free . Last night as a team we got our first glimpse of what we will be doing...
First, I want to pause to share with you what Breaking Free does, but I feel like you would get a better idea if you checked out their website. They do a much better job of concisely telling you what they are all about.
What I will say is how overwhelmed I was last night to think that prostitution is happening within miles of my little home. It is happening in the depths of the cities, suburbs, internet, all ages and seems to be on the rise due to the economy. Hearing the stories from our facilitator broke my heart. Fitting huh? Considering I have been listening to Hosanna and making it my prayer on a daily basis. This definitely breaks God's heart. The other part of the song/prayer is Everything I am for Your Kingdom's cause. I came into our meeting last night SO excited, but left feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of this commitment both in the serving roles, but mostly in the complexities of prostitution. But late last night as I tried to sleep, it hit me that stuff that breaks God's heart is tough stuff and while I am anxious, I am ALL in. It doesn't mean I don't have questions or frustrations about this or wonder if this will even make a dent in the bigger issue of prostitution, but that isn't for me to worry about...it is in God's hands.
Where do YOU come in? It might go a little something like this:
YOU: I really want to have my girlfriends over for some treats and beverages this holiday season (or beyond). But I want it to be meaningful and not like one of those pressure sale home parties. I heard about these boutique parties from that crazy Vosberg lady, I should go check out the website. I filled out the contact form to see about hosting a BF party.
US: We receive your request and squeal with delight! We then work with you to find the best date and assign 2 facilitators to your party and also give you an email template to invite your girlfriends.
YOU: Plan some food and beverages. Send the email invite and encourage your friends to come and shop at this boutique party as 100% of the profit goes right back into Breaking Free programming/housing.
US: A bit before the party starts, we show up and set up.
YOU: Welcome your guests, make them comfortable, feed them, hydrate them...
US: We will take a small amount of time to share what Breaking Free is all about and do a quick run through of the products on display.
YOU and GUESTS: Shop as much or as little as you want. The end.
We don't pressure anybody into anything whether it is purchasing or hosting their own party. We only respond to the inquiries surrounding how to host their own party or volunteer themselves at Breaking Free.
Please consider hosting. The merchandise is unique, fun and great for gifts! Also a majority of the items are made by rescued women (jewelry, bags and scarves). And you are supporting a unique organization that doesn't just want to put a band-aid on the life of prostitution, but is committed to seeing full healing and restoration.
