Car Talk

One of my favorite most cherished times with the boys is driving in the car. But let's be honest, part of my enjoyment is because they are strapped in and forced to sit still for a few consecutive minutes.

The other parts? This is where I get to show my boys the world and teach them all sorts of things about what we are seeing. We chatter about the sky, a big truck or of course trains. We see beautiful sunsets or tall buildings. This is also where almost all of our deep conversations with Brevin happen. We have talked about the homeless, God and the status of his friendships (because he is the 3rd friend in a group at pre-school and this causes him great concern).

Another part to our car time? This is where we as a family belt.it.out and dance as best we can in a seating and buckled position. We have our staple five cds that consist of: U2, God songs, Curious George Soundtrack, Black Eyed Peas and U2. Oh to be a fly on the wall in our car.

Today was one of those days that consisted of a lot of drop-offs/pick-ups. Here are some snippets of Vosberg Car Talk:

B: Mom, when it gets to this part of the song (#1 on Curious George), it makes me sad because it is the part of the movie that George doesn't have any friends.
M: Oh Brev...has mommy ever told you that daddy and I took you to see this movie when you were just 4 days old? A tiny little baby? And has mommy ever told you how I cried and cried and cried because I was so happy to have you in my arms...
B: Oh Mom... [insert rolling eyes, slight blushing and a big smile]

R: MOMMY! MOMMY! MOMMY!
M: Yes Rowan?
R: I poop. [insert stinky smell]
B: Roooo-wwwannnnn!

M: Brevin you are the BOMB!!!
B: Ummmm the BOMB DIGGITY???
M: Yes the BOMB DIGGITY...oh I love you Brevin, do you know that?
B: Yes, I know that because you are the most awesomest mom in the whole wide world (oh, why thank you...whattya want?)...
M: But HOW do you know that I love you?
B: Hmmm because you take care of us, do things for us...like...bake a lot of treats! (just for the record, I bake maaaayyybe once every two months...I think this was more of a subtle hint)

R: MOMMY! MOMMY! MOMMY!
M: Yes, Rowan?
R: Daddy?
M: Daddy's at work? Do you like daddy?
R: Yeah...yeah
M: What else do you like?
R: Uppy...meow...un-cle eh baby...chi chi Bob...neer Paaauuu...Umpa... (Translation: Puppy...kitty...Uncle and Baby Gates...Choo Choo Bob...Engineer Paul and Grandpa)

And to think if I had a DVD player in my car that I would be missing out on this. No thanks!

What happens in your car??? With THE kids! Keep it clean...keep it clean... :)

Both my kids fall asleep. It's a blessing to on long car rides. A bummer on short ones...

We have great conversations to and from day care each day too. It has been in the car where most of Griffin's questions regarding Jesus take place. I love sneaking a glance back at his face when he is pondering life! I can't wait for Grayson to be forward facing so I can see his facial expressions too:)

I have to be honest though. We love our portable DVD player. We do not use it for normal travel though---only on trips to Milwaukee. Although we chat for numerous hours, the DVD is a great middle of the trip break!
