With the previous post in mind, we have officially declared The Summer of 2009 the SIMPLE SUMMER. How do I feel about this? It changes by the hour. I am so used to camping once a month and having LOTS of "plans" for the summer. It feels strange looking at our calendar with hardly anything on it. It does. But then after the initial shock wears off, I start to smile slowly.
One lesson I have learned since becoming a mommy to Brevin and has been re-affirmed with Rowan is how fast time goes. One of my favorite quotes is from a John Lennon song, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." There is so much truth to these lyrics. We (society) are racing around at a rapid pace: Have to do camps, classes, swimming lessons, this, that and the other thing. I say nope, no we don't. Because if we are racing around doing all those things, there won't be moments at our dinner table that make me blow milk out of my nose because Brev has just said something funny. Or there won't be time for nightly walks around home to our local park. Or time for a warm Friday afternoon spent at our local pool as a family.
The reason I start to smile slowly is when I realize how much time we have to just be, I really start to get excited. I look forward to the spur of the moment BBQs with friends, time at the pool, nights on the patio with my husband and a local hike or two. So give us a call for any spur of the moment fun that comes your way. Even though it makes me a little on edge with no plans, I am going to relish in the life that I would have missed out on while I was busy making those plans.
Oh wait...just in case you were wondering, one plan that IS in place is the first Saturday of The Great Minnesota Get Together...August 29th. :)
