"I will NEVER sound like my mother..."

This is a quote often heard around a house full of teenagers. I know I said it and I am sure many of you did too.

This topic has come up in the last week:
M (To Heath): WOW-you sure sound A LOT like your mom right now.
H: You sound like your mom all the time.
M: WHAT?! No I don't. Ok, yes I do. You are right.

While driving around Duluth with the family this last weekend, I realized I sounded just like my dad. For as long as I can remember while sitting in the backseat driving through Buffalo, MN (his hometown) my dad would give us his childhood tour:

"This is the house I grew up in..."
"This is where I use to go pick up golf balls..."
"This is where Uncle Nap and Aunt Gert lived and I would visit..."

As kids, my brothers and I would roll our eyes, snicker and mouth the words as my dad would once again start in the things we had heard a million times on the way to our dentist appointments. As we drove through Duluth, Heath and I once again (only this time he might have actually understood really what we were saying) gave Brevin the tour:

"This is where mommy and daddy lived..."
"This is where we used to go for walks..."
"This is where daddy used to work..."

This situation is one I am thankful to sound just like my parent. The tradition carries on in a car ride sharing memories and stories. This time in Duluth we also started to share stories with Brevin from only 2-3 short years ago, ones he couldn't remember like when we passed him on the lazy susan at Pizza Luce (he giggled and said that was hilarious) to visit Grandma on the other side of the booth. Or the first time he saw the waterfalls...or...

As I was catching up on some of my favorite blogs, I saw this post which is definitely something I have wrestled with more and more as of late. Definitely worth checking out.
