State Fair 2008-By popular demand:)

Well, here we are the middle of September already-WHAT?! Not sure where the time has gone, but we are already missing deep August and The MN State Fair. With being in the thick of 1st trimester yuckness, we ended up thwarting our plans-just a little. I rested for 2 days prior and cleared my schedule to rest the 2 days after. After some research about the hours of 6AM-8AM, we (The Carstens and The Vosbergs) made an executive decision to start our day at 8AM (nothing but church breakfast is happening otherwise). This was a wise choice. We started by getting the kid's bike helmets for free and fitted...this was a glorious thing (have you seen the size of Brev's head?) to have done professionally and accurately. We had to wait for Brian or "corn dog" as he prefers to open up his stand at 9AM to have our traditional first corn dog. My mouth is watering now as I speak. For the next 4 hours it was all about the kids: Animals big and small, DNR building, the yellow slide, the Kiddy Midway and the little farm helpers thingy! We ate a lot with the kids: Mini-Doughnuts, Cheese on a stick, milk, more corn dogs, root beer, frozen mocha (for the adults!)...it was a great morning!
The blue ribbon idea of the day goes to Chad for thinking up the go home, take a nap, re-charge and get a sitter for the kids. Coming back with no stroller and only having to think about food for me was GREAT! We beelined to the Agriculture Building to see Mary Beth's scarecrow and have an apple freezy but they were OUT! WHAT?! So Tina tried the wine ice cream and liked it. Then it was straight to the pork chop on a stick, a new one for us in the Dairy Barn malt and then French Fries...all within about 20 minutes. I KNOW!!!! CRAZY!!! The malt was a great new addition to our must haves! We headed to Machinery Hill to check out some buildings up there. It was low key and nice! We took the Sky-Glide-another first-back to the grand stand area. That was a treat! Yes, Heath and I made out...I mean come on, it was our 10 year anniversary, we had to act 18 again. :)

The night ended with a Trampled By Turtles concert. Oh to be 22 again...it was such a fun time...It was such a crazy time! There were security and police trying to really crack down, but after 45 minutes of the crowd creeping closer and closer (we were in the 2nd row), alls it took was one stupid move by a security guard and the stage area was flooded. Despite the lack of maturity by others (refer to my "Oh to be 22 again...") which resulted in me smelling like beer and having to lay the smack down a couple of times (yeah right!), the concert was way more fun dancing TBT style. It was a glorious night of youthfulness!

All in all it was a successful State Fair 2008, some new things to take with us in the future, but we all definitely agreed that we will be back the 1st Saturday next year...August 22, 2009!!
