Running?! Me!? Never...

say never!

I am contemplating running a 1/2 marathon in August. (Go ahead, pull yourself off the floor...)

Through a conversation with a dear friend, she suggested that I needed a distraction (from some post-partum struggles). She suggested running. I almost fell off my stool laughing. ME?! (between breaths from laughter) Running?! (more breaths) This was my polite way of saying, "NOPE! NADA! AIN'T HAPPENIN'"

Then I was in a meeting with my supervisor and we were discussing Nicaragua mission trips dates and some were falling around August 22nd. She then kindly reminded me that this was the date of the World Vision 1/2 marathon in the Twin Cities. She also told me it was her 65th birthday and it was her goal to run it. She then asked, "Want to run it with me?" I gave her a nervous smile as I started having a conversation in my head...

"If she is committing to this on HER 65TH BIRTHDAY then I have no excuse not to do it either!? Plus it is for World Vision which is an organization I hold near to my heart...UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

The next day I then circled back to the original friend to tell her I was "thinking" about it, but not ready to make the commitment. She immediately said she would do it with me. Later that I evening I shared with another running-hater that I was thinking about it which spurred her to ALSO say she would do it with me. WHAT?!?!?!

Heath and I discussed this morning what I would need to accomplish this goal. A LOT OF ENCOURAGEMENT and ACCOUNTABILITY, but he said he is 100% behind me.

I still haven't made the full commitment, but am at least going to go right now for my first walk/run...

This could be an interesting 2010!
