I never ever want to forget this day. Never. January 20, 2009 will be an image I will treasure always and forever. I tried to give Brevin a little history/political science lesson regarding the historical importance of what happened today---he just thought Barack Obama was a fun thing to say! That is ok. He has a dorky history teaching mom at heart that will make sure he knows that he was alive during a time that could change the trajectory of our nation.
I have to mention that I watched the oath in my cube with some co-workers in and out. I did call/text Marlene letting her know that I would truly love to be with her for this moment. Not only because we traveled to DC together and how wonderful that city was to us, but because we have always had such different views, but knew that she has that same zest for history that I do. That we could come together and celebrate this day that one of us could be teaching about in our classrooms someday. She was soaking up the sun in Miami, but we were definitely together in spirit. I did spend the oath on the phone (saying nothing to each other) with Tina and texting Heath multiple times as he jimmy-rigged a tv for his class at work.
The images of the droves of people will never leave my memory. Seeing Obama give that speech will never leave my memory. Seeing the city so vibrant will never leave my memory. I celebrate this day now and in the days/years to come.
