Brevin's Birth Story: The very abbreviated version...

In the mommy blog world, it is typical to write out the birth story of your Kid-Os on their birthday...I always truly enjoy reading them when they come across my page. It is amazing to me how every mom has THEIR story filled with the highs and lows. I heavily considered if I should write out every moment-all 40 hours worth-but I decided against it. I do remember those 40 hours like it was yesterday and have especially camped on those 40 hours in my brain more so as April 25th approaches. Here are some highlights from February 2-4 of 2006 and the birth of Brevin:
  • My water broke while we were eating dinner and getting ready to draft our Survivor Fantasy League team at around 6:00. I didn't tell Heath it happened until the show was almost over at 7:45. :)
  • I had one of life's most embarrassing moments with the beautiful man (tall, dark, handsome with an accent!) that brought me my epidural. I think my first words were something like this (while Heath sat next to me shaking his head secretly laughing inside), "Wow! Are you married? Do you have kids?" SERIOUSLY!?! What was I thinking. I hope I have the opportunity to have a re-do with this guy in 3 months.
  • We had an amazing nurse, we called her RSN-ROCK STAR NURSE JOYCE! We recently saw her while visiting some friends at St. Johns, she told us we could request her if she was on. YES!
  • We had a not so amazing nurse named Deb that Heath actually laid the smack down with (I know, MY husband, lay the smack down? WHAT?!). We will make sure to know her schedule and make it known she should not be within 20 feet of me at Rowan's birth.
  • Funny snippets that happened in the 40 hours: Having no control over bodily functions while on the epidural in front of Heath's parents was quite hilarious, the flowers delivered, hearing from Gram throughout the weekend, coming to terms that Heath and the baby would actually end up sharing a birthday because IT TOOK SO DARN LONG to birth him and seeing the look on my mom and Heath's face when Brevin was being born. (picture huge eyes!)
  • There was a lot of waiting and waiting and waiting...but I remember how fun it was to know that my brother, Beck and Marlene made it to 3:09 A.M. Saturday for Brevin's birth outside my door. I will never forget the horror when the not so nice nurse Deb came in and told me that Jeremy (Marlene's husband) wanted to come in and pray with us (when things weren't going so smoothly). I must have looked at her like she had just landed from Mars when she told me this (I was in full out birthing position). I found out later what he really wanted was for me to know they were praying for me. BIG DIFFERENCE!!
  • The look on Heath's face the moment he found out it was a boy and then the re-assuring look he gave me as they had to swiftly go to the special care nursery (for meconium). From Brevin's first moment here with us, Heath effortlessly stepped into his new role as daddy and just took care of business. Amazing.
  • Truly seeing Brevin and holding him at 10:00 Saturday morning was unexplainable.
  • Auntie Becky exclaiming on Sunday that he had dimples! We didn't know this yet due to his patches he had to have on his cheeks since the previous day.
  • Finding out friends of ours delivered on the same day with their son Gunnar. YAHOO!

Oh wow-the memories! I can say it now, 3 years later...fun times! :) I am amazed at what a little man we have on our hands: Sincere, compassionate, has our dorky sense of humor and an amazing taste in music (U2). It is a true joy to celebrate this day with him as his mommy, from this perspective. Happy Birthday B-Rev!

Happy Birthday to Brev! It was fun to hear his birth story again! Here is hoping for a shorter aka quicker story for Rowan!

How fun to hear that story! Hopefully Rowan will have some different (and milder) twists and turns! Happy B-day to Brevin and Heath--see you soon!

I too love the "Birthday" story. Not only does it bring you right back to when your own kids were born, it also lets you know that every little baby has their own story that starts at birth!
I am glad the prayer situation was cleared up. LOL!!
Happy Birthday!!
