NOT A GOOD DAY TO DROP MY PHONE IN THE TOILET!

Good evening! I am busting at the seams to write this blog! So today was a normal Monday, Brevin to Tami's, back to work and so on. During the afternoon I had a meeting and when I returned had a message on my phone from Emili (My brother Adam's girlfriend). I knew she had flown into AK last night to reunite with Adam and I had requested we were notified of her safe arrival. I called back only to get her voicemail, pretty normal. I went to pick up Brevin from Tami's in the afternoon, but needed to quickly use the bathroom before we hit the road across the metro for a dinner date. I did my business and JUST as I stood up...PLUNK! There goes my phone into the toilet. I screamed, did my "I don't know what to do dance" and then ran out screaming to Tami. With a plastic glove on, I reached into grab it, we had Clorox wipes and then she even used her blow dryer on it. We hoped it would turn on, but it did not. (More so to retrieve the SIM card not to use the nasty phone) I called Heath to tell him of this turn of events and went on my way to The Carstens.

We had dinner, caught up, did a little singing on their new PS2 Karaoke game and thought I would check my messages just in case. I had ANOTHER message from Emili saying to call her. I went back to singing some 80's tune...99 Balloons? Heath interrupted me and said my mom was calling and wanted to talk to me. I was a little bummed I had to stop singing, but she had said that Adam was urgently trying to get a hold of me. I explained my run in with the toilet and she insisted I call him right away as Adam wanted to talk about something that he and I had just talked about in regards to Christmas the day before. So I called him. Emili answered and said he could not talk as he was on the phone. So I asked her how she was, how was the flight and being "home" in AK. We talked, I then asked what he wanted and she said she didn't know? So I said to have him call me back, but wasn't sure if we could answer as we were about to watch a show with Chad and Tina. Within 3 minutes, he called and talked briefly about my phone incident. He then said very slyly, "That is a bummer...I gave Emili a ring or I asked Emili to marry me or we are engaged." I am still not sure what he actually said because as SOON as he said it, I started screaming and saying, "NO WAY, NO WAY, NO WAY!" And then started running/dancing to tell Heath, Brevin and The Carstens. From there it was a conversation filled with laughter, details and questions. Emili LOVES her ring! Adam waited until Emili flew out of Mpls to ask her mom's permission so she wouldn't spill the beans! He did it on a smuggled boat(which apparently is how they spent the first night they hung out together...smuggling boats!:)! She thought he was joking! My mom knew for 3 weeks and DID NOT TELL ME, she even shipped the ring!

Again, busting at the seams, not sure I can sleep tonight, I am SO thrilled for the two of them! They are not sure on a date yet or where they will live (I am pulling for Montana if it is not MN!) and how all of that will work out. Honestly, it just doesn't matter right now. We are relishing in the fact that Emili is going to be a part of our family...a daughter...a sister and the coolest Auntie this side of Alaska. :) I am impressed Adam...a little bit in awe as I am not sure I thought this day would ever come? As I think about all we have witnessed you go through as my little brother, this wins! You are going to be married and a husband!!!!! How nuts is that?!?!

So the moral of the story is DO NOT EVER DROP YOUR PHONE IN THE TOILET especially when your brother is trying to reach you to share he is getting married!

You guys have no idea how hard it was for me to keep that secret! Brian honestly didn't think I could do it! We are thrilled to welcome Emili into our crazy family and looking forward to meeting her family as well. Hey Adam, remember the part about paying a lady to throw the rice? Let the wedding plans begin!!!! Love, Mom
